EnteroLab, a laboratory in Dallas, tests for gluten intolerance (also known as gluten sensitivity) by looking for antibodies to gluten in your stool. The company offers its services direct to consumers, which means you don't need to go through your physician to get tested.

Have you had testing for gluten intolerance or other food intolerances through EnteroLab? What was your experience like? Share your story with other readers.

Accurate, Helpful and Timely

Our daughter seemed to be getting migraines after eating bread. I did some research and became aware of celiac disease. She tried a 2 week period of eating gluten-free and didn't have any headaches. We didn't have insurance, but wanted her tested. At this point she had been gluten-free for six months and I didn't know if the blood tests would be definitive. A friend suggested Enterolab. We sent for the testing kit and got the DNA test and stool test for gluten sensitivity and milk sensitivity. While she did not have the specific genes that Enterolab considers to markers for celiac disease, both my husband and I had each given her the same gene for gluten sensitivity. She also had another gluten-sensitivity gene and a milk sensitivity gene. The stool test did not show evidence of damage to her intestines, so we knew we were doing a good job on the gluten-free diet. Because of the double up of one of the genes for gluten-sensitivity, she has had some severe reactions to wheat and now carries and EpiPen. I feel that the Enterolab testing was accurate, helpful and timely. I would recommend it.

Enterolab Saved Me

I had never heard of gluten intolerance or celiac disease at the age of 55. I went to a new doctor who handed me an information sheet. Something was killing me. I got on the internet and educated myself in a weekend, and immediately went gluten-free, and started getting relief of rashes and feeling better immediately. My doctor handed me printouts from enterolab.com. I opted to choose them for my testing, based on Dr. Fine's essay. My insurance was worthless, and I could not afford an endoscopy. That was a great choice, as I later found out that I had hemolytic anemia, and that blood tests don't work if you have it. I submitted after being gluten-free for 3 weeks, and all results were highly positive, including casein intolerance. I had a DQ2 gene and a non-celiac gluten intolerance gene identified. Dr. Fine's analysis suggesting I would be extra sensitive due to the genes identified turned out to be very true, as proved by mistakes made, first by a restaurant.

Enterolab is AWESOME!!

Dr. Fine's stool test is what made THE difference for my family. "Traditional" medical professionals and the tests they order failed us: we did not have Celiac Disease so we were told to continue to eat gluten. Our doctors were satisfied with giving us names for our long list of various medical issues and then medications to mask our symptoms- with no concern/interest as to WHAT was causing our health issues and WHY we were not healthy. Dr. Fine is a brilliant, progressive and open-minded doctor who is ahead of his time. I could care less what "some" other doctors have to say about his tests and his research. Aldous Huxley's quote: "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored" comes to mind.

It changed my life!!

From the age of 9 until age 45, I was on a mssion to find out what was wrong with me. I was exhausted, I stopped growing properly, I had arthritic pans, low grade depression allergies and every illness on this planet, I got. Well, when my MD recommended Enterolab after a high normal blood test. I agreed. The Enterolab test showed that I have the main genes for celiac and that I have gluten intolerance immediately went on a gluten free diet. While I didn't see results right away, I gradually started to notice better changes n my body. One day after being GF for 18 months, I woke up feelng better than I did before the age of 9! I knew was healed and I felt and continue to feel fantastic on a GF diet. My depression, severe fatigue, arthritic pains are gone. My brain fog has been eliminated. I feel fantastic and have Enterolab to thank for it. I feel better at 51 than I felt before he age of 9. Thank you Enterolab for giving me back my life.

Enetrolab was great

I used them to diagnose my daughter with gluten intolerance once her blood work for Celiac was negative. After the Enetrolab results she began a gluten free lifestyle and is feeling so much better....

Enterolab wasa big help

All the blood work was negative, the biopsy was negative (the gluten challenge before hand was really hard, way beyond uncomfortable. Enterolab results were positive. Are they any good for follow-up? Does a stool anti-TTG mean celiac versus non celiac gluten sensitive? Their news tests for antigenic foods - are these tests any less controversial? I guess it doesn't matter that much; the diet is working. It has even fixed things we didn't realize were broken!
