How long should I eat gluten before test

If I want to get tested, I have to go off the GF diet, but for how long? I've heard anecdotally something like 3 months! I don't want to be miserable and unhealthy for 3 months. With a self-diagnosed GS I feel better on the GF diet. Do I really need to go back to eating it just to find out if I have Celiac? Can't I just stay on a GF diet and it won't matter if it's CD or GS since I'm not eating it anyway?

Wait a year and recheck!!

Our daughter, who has Down syndrome, had very high blood levels when checked at age 3. She had the EGD done which showed mild flattening of the villi. She had a distended belly and whined all the time. (we didn't know her stomach hurt!). The GI doc told us we didn't need to do anything because it was "latent" celiac and could recheck in a year. Luckily we did not listen to him. We started her on a gf diet as soon as we could figure out what it was (the dietitian was no help). In one week she stopped whining and in 6 months her belly was normal. She has been thriving on the gf diet ever since, is now 14 and very tall for someone with DS. She even helps make her own gf meals in the kitchen! In case there is anyone reading this who knows someone with Down syndrome, celiac disease is much more common in these individuals and they should have regular blood tests even without symptoms.

How long before diagnosis

How's this? No one has ever diagnosed me with Celiac. We have 6 kids, 3 diagnosed with Celiac, 3 with Gluten Intolerance (check out Dr Kenneth Fine who runs a lab to help with diagnoses). We did this 2 yrs ago, which means that I have been living undiagnosed for 23 years. I self diagnosed myself early on by abstaining from gluten for 60 days. The dr swore I didn't have it, but his clue was "you will be better after 30 days and feel normal after 60 days of abstaining from gluten." It was exactly as he said. Which also tells you that when you get "glutened" it affects you for 60 days. Take that to the restaurant who wants to take your allergy lightly!

Although I am gluten, diary & soy sensitive I was just as sick as celiac's for 65 years until I had a heart attack from the inflammation & had 4 other diseases from it too. 4 years later all 4 are gone and my blood Cholestrol, LDL, HDL levels are so good my Cardiologist says we don't need to take blood tests anymore. All from eliminating these three from my diet. www.enterolab.com is the place to find this out, if you are eating gluten. 6 out of 7 family members tested have autoimmune disease reaction to gluten and are gluten sensitive. Many of us are just as sick as those with celiac disease! When you are dairy intollerant it means the tips of the villi are destroyed. I suspect many who are celiac don't realize they are dairy intollerant. Go to this lab, which my cardiologist recommended, for further help! This will be huge in the future because of the way they grow, process and create the hard to digest hybrid seeds in gluten grains. We need to go back to basics.

40 Years!

I began complaining about my stomach when I was 8 and was diagnosed with everything from nervous stomach to depression until the age of 47 when after 10 years of chronic diarrhea I demanded my PC doctor figure out what was wrong with me. It's been 1 1/2 years since the diagnosis and my life has changed dramatically ... for the better!
