It's easy to be gluten-free in Philadelphia. The city has made a concerted effort to be safe for people with celiac disease and now calls itself "The First Gluten-Free Neighborhood in the U.S." Philadelphia claims to have "the largest organized block of gluten-free dining spots" in New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania.

According to Melanie Sole of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, staff members at Philadelphia restaurants that offer gluten-free menu items have completed a training program sponsored by the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), which is based in Philadelphia. Melanie added that some of the city's most famous restaurants (including Amada and Osteria) participated.
