Europe's Largest Gluten-Free Bakery To Open In June

Tuesday May 6, 2008
Here’s another encouraging sign that gluten-free products are becoming part of the manufacturing mainstream. News organizations in Europe are reporting that a company called The Village Bakery will be opening the continent’s largest gluten-free bread bakery, in Wales. The 24,000 square foot bakery will be able to produce 2,500 loaves an hour.

The Village Bakery expects to manufacture approximately four million loaves per year, to be sold across Europe. The range of products will include high-fiber loaves, breads made from linseed and oats, and ciabattas and other Italian breads.

The new plant is expected to begin operation in June and reach full capacity by August.
